About the role

Higgins Wellington is looking for a driven and capable Project Engineer to join our team. This is a key role for someone who is ready to take ownership of project delivery, lead technical outcomes, and support the successful execution of civil construction works across the region.

What you’ll be doing

Leading the planning, coordination, and delivery of construction activities
Owning project or section delivery from planning through to close out
Driving short- and medium-term programming and daily site coordination
Providing technical leadership across engineering, quality, and compliance
Overseeing setting out, verification and technical assurance
Managing quality systems, ITPs, documentation, and non-conformance resolution
Monitoring progress, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions
Supporting commercial performance including cost tracking, forecasting, and variations
Coordinating subcontractors and suppliers to ensure safe, high-quality delivery
Building strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams
Championing safety, environmental and quality standards across all activities
Coaching and supporting Site Engineers, Graduates, and delivery teams

What you’ll bring to the role

Proven experience in civil construction or infrastructure project delivery
Experience leading project or section delivery
Strong understanding of construction methodologies and engineering principles
Exposure to planning, programming, and coordinating site activities
Commercial awareness including cost control, variations, and contract administration
Experience managing subcontractors and multiple stakeholders
Strong communication and leadership skills
Ability to problem solve, make sound decisions, and manage competing priorities
Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction, or a related discipline
Full Class 1 licence
