In this Postdoctoral Fellow position, you will join the research group led by Associate Professor Mikkel F. Andersen to conduct original experimental research individual dysprosium atoms in optical tweezers. The project aims to study how dysprosium’s large magnetic interactions can be utilised in future magnetic field sensors and to investigate precursors for novel quantum phases of matter. The project is supported by Quantum Tech. Aotearoa and the Dodd-Walls Centre for Photonic and Quantum Technologies.
Over the past decades, our group has successfully developed a capability to control and manipulate individual atoms using optical tweezers. Recently, we have extended this effort by building a new experimental apparatus capable of laser cooling and manipulating dysprosium atoms. The project will utilise this new apparatus.
We are seeking a highly motivated and responsible individual keen to drive the project forward in a methodical and structured manner. You will also assist in the development and mentoring of graduate students. Our group is committed to delivering world-class research published in leading journals, and it is a key tenet of our work to provide a supportive and collaborative environment towards this end.
