About the role
We’re looking for a commercially sharp, hands-on Head of Finance – Manufacturing & Supply Chain to partner with the leaders who run our frame & truss plants and our delivery network across PlaceMakers.
Reporting to the CFO and working day to day alongside our GM Manufacturing & Supply Chain, this is a senior, hands-on leadership role with real scope to make an impact. You’ll lead a finance team including the manufacturing accounts team, get under the skin of our eight frame & truss plants and our delivery services freight network – including the heavy transport fleet that gets product from our branches to our customers’ sites – combining detailed analysis with a big-picture view to help shape how this part of the business performs and grows.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be the finance lead for Manufacturing and Supply Chain, including:
Owning the budgets and forecasts for Manufacturing and Supply Chain – building them from the ground up with operational leaders and keeping them current through our rolling forecast and TM1 forecasting system
Challenging the status quo on efficiency, productivity and cost – across plant utilisation, labour, materials, freight and fleet – and bringing practical, solutions-focused options to the table
Providing strategic planning support to the GM Manufacturing & Supply Chain, including capacity and network planning, scenario modelling, capital investment decisions and business cases
• Turning operational and financial data into clear, actionable insight, with reporting focused on the measures that matter most
Supporting the CFO with Executive and Board reporting on manufacturing and supply chain performance
Ensuring invoicing is completed on a timely and accurate basis by the accounts team, with the right processes and controls in place
Leading, coaching and developing your team – including the accounts team and the finance support for our delivery services – to deliver accurate, timely and insightful work
Building strong, trusted working relationships at every level – from plant and transport managers through to the senior leadership team
This is a permanent full-time role, offering 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday, based in our Support office in Penrose.
What you’ll bring:
You’ll be an experienced finance leader with a manufacturing background who is just as comfortable digging into the detail as stepping back to see the big picture. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced, operational environment and know how to turn complex numbers into practical advice that leaders can act on.
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
CAANZ membership or an equivalent professional qualification such as CPA or ACCA
At least seven years’ experience in finance roles, including manufacturing finance experience, ideally alongside exposure to supply chain, logistics, transport or distribution
Proven experience leading and developing finance teams
A strong grasp of operational and cost accounting – product costing, cost-to-serve, and plant and fleet economics
Hands-on budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling skills, with the ability to build forecasts from the detail up
A solutions-based mindset and a track record of driving efficiency, cost improvement and better ways of working
Sound understanding of financial controls and transactional processes, including billing and invoicing
Experience with financial systems and reporting tools such as TM1, SAP and Power BI, with Claude or similar AI experience preferred
The confidence and maturity to influence stakeholders and respectfully challenge thinking
The ability to build genuine relationships across all layers of the business – from the plant floor to the boardroom
Why join us?
At PlaceMakers, we’re proud of our Know How. Can Do. approach. We value people who bring expertise, curiosity and initiative – and who turn good thinking into action.
You’ll have the opportunity to make a visible difference to two critical, physical parts of our business – where we make and how we move – working alongside senior operational and finance leaders. Most importantly, your work will help our teams run safer, leaner and smarter operations for our people, customers and future.
If you love getting into the detail, challenging the way things are done and partnering with operational leaders to deliver real commercial value, we’d love to hear from you.
Apply now and bring your financial know-how and can-do attitude to our team.
Pre-employment checks including references, medical, drug test and a Criminal background check is required as well as the legal right to work in NZ indefinitely.
We are proud of the incredible diversity of people who make up our business! As an Equal Opportunity Employer, we strive to create an inclusive environment for all our employees across our national network of branches throughout New Zealand.
