The Project Management Office (PMO) supports the GNS Science community by enabling successful delivery of complex scientific programmes.
The role
As an Associate Project Manager within the PMO, you will support the delivery of science research projects. You will primarily support smaller projects but may also work with a Project Manager on larger or more complex projects.
This role is an ideal starting point for someone who wants to progress their career in project management. It may be that you are a Project Coordinator, or perhaps you have been involved in running projects, managing project finances, or preparing project planning or reporting as part of another role.
This role sits in a small team within the PMO, comprised of Associate Project Managers and one PMO Coordinator. The team provides a supportive, learning environment for people to develop their project management skills.
Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities will be to:
- Support the Project Leader to plan, deliver and monitor projects.
- Facilitate the project governance needs, project team roles and responsibilities.
- Manage the information of the project, including finances.
- Support the development and implementation of the GNS Project Management Framework
About you
The ideal candidate will have:
- Some project management experience is needed, even if you haven’t had the job title. Please ensure your CV / covering letter makes this clear.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience of working in a project management environment, with some understanding of what project management is.
- A great work ethic, the right mindset, and an appetite for success

This is a permanent, full time (38 hours per week) role and is based at our campus in Avalon, Lower Hutt.
The salary range for this position is between $90,907 to $97,750 per annum depending on the successful candidate’s experience.
