We are on the lookout for an advisor to join our Regulatory Implementation Team until 30 May 2025. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to further grow and develop their career in policy and regulation.
In this role you will be the go-to problem solver and will be responsible for providing high quality, fit for purpose advice, by working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders including technical specialists.
The Advisor will:
Provide advice and support the development of implementation policies, processes, and guidelines that enable a safe, effective, and efficient land transport system.
Draft briefings and decision documents for senior managers, and support the decision-making process from commissioning to conclusion.
Bring in the right people at the right time to contribute to new and existing continuous improvement regulatory initiatives.
Develop an end-to-end understanding of the regulatory land transport system.

You will be passionate about growing and developing your policy and advisory skills and thrive in a collaborative but sometimes fast-moving working environment.
What else you will bring:
An ability to quickly get up to speed and work under pressure.
Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline or equivalent experience.
Experience with genuine collaboration, considering a range of views and bringing others along on a journey.
Outstanding written skills and the ability to quickly condense complex information and present it in a way that is easy to understand.
Have sound judgement and the ability to make good risk-based decisions.
Experience contributing to successful projects.
Previous experience of local and/or central government is preferred but not required.
Be a true team player and be able to work closely and support your team members.
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

The Regulatory Implementation Team is the link between the creation and amendment of legislation and the regulatory operational teams and regulated parties. Guided by risk, intelligence and evidence, the Regulatory Implementation Teams purpose is to take a systems view and work collaboratively and in partnership with our operational teams, industry and Regulatory Standards and Implementation colleagues to facilitate the implementation and operationalisation of new and existing legislative settings.
The team members are generalists and problem solvers who know who to bring in when to enable and deliver great outcomes. They ensure they are ‘in the room’ early for new initiatives so that operational impacts are fully understood upfront and appropriate resource and funding planning can take place. They work with the operational teams and industry to tackle current and future risks, harm, and regulatory barriers to identify where operational changes can achieve the desired outcome or alternatively, flagging where legislative settings may need to change. The Regulatory Implementation Team draw in the appropriate people and parties, in an agile, engaging, and collaborative manner, so that everyone is informed and can collectively wrap around prioritised areas.
