As the lead regulator for land transport our purpose is to ensure that the system is safe, efficient, effective and operates in the public interest. Safety is a top priority for Waka Kotahi and Te Rōpū Waeture - the Regulatory Services groups aim is to improve safety and reduce the risk of harm by being a firm and fair real-world regulator.
The Safety Camera System Integrity Lead is part of the Safety Camera System, which is responsible for operating a network of safety cameras that encourages road users to abide by road rules (such as speed limits) and contribute towards a reduction in deaths and serious injuries on New Zealand roads. The delivery of the end-to-end Safety Camera System is spread across multiple leaders and business groups in NZTA, and effective oversight is required to ensure the staff and leaders working on Safety Camera System activities work effectively together to deliver the system’s strategic objectives.
The role is critical to ensuring activities across the end-to-end safety camera system operate with integrity and deliver to agreed performance measures. Through overseeing integrity and performance, you will leverage your stakeholder management and influencing experience to ensure senior leaders and their teams work together to collectively achieve road safety, regulatory and system assurance outcomes. In addition, you will bring your critical thinking to develop operational frameworks and measures that support teams delivering to their accountabilities within the safety camera system.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Proven experience in a leadership role within a regulatory operational environment
Proven experience influencing and working collaboratively with operational and senior leaders across a large, complex organisation to deliver strategic outcomes
Excellent relationship and stakeholder management skills at a senior level with proven ability to influence and build credibility with key stakeholders groups
Experience in operationalising strategic activities through management of operational agreements and performance frameworks
Experience in the resolution of operational issues, including impact assessment, risk mitigation and operational performance
A high level of analytical, critical, and strategic thinking applying a system view to resolve complex issues
Strong written and verbal communication skills that have been used to successfully translate complex information
Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a matrix environment
A sound understanding of regulatory principles (including their application) is preferred
Knowledge of road safety, safety cameras and automated compliance and enforcement would be desirable
Qualifications:
A relevant tertiary qualification, equivalent experience and/or professional certification/accreditation.
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
