Dunedin Hospital’s Anaesthesia Department welcomes applications for the position of a Specialist Anaesthetist to provide sabbatical cover from February - September 2025.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
Dunedin Hospital has 300 beds and servicing the Southern region which covers a population of around 340,000. The Anaesthesia Service has state of the art equipment and is supported by our well-trained technicians and PACU staff. This is also an exciting time to join as our service prepares for the New Dunedin Hospital. As a Specialist Anaesthetist, you’ll be expected to provide anaesthesia for a mix of general lists covering a broad range of specialist services. You will also be expected to provide afterhours cover during the week and will participate on a 1:8 weekend call roster.
We are a tertiary level hospital with a full range of elective and acute surgical specialities and can offer you a varied and challenging array of anaesthesia work. Ideally, we are looking for someone with the following skills and experience to complement our team:
- An excellent general skill set
- It would be desirable to have a specialist interest in perioperative medicine.
- A team player with exceptional interpersonal skills who builds effective relationships both within and external to their team
- Is solution focussed and can demonstrate excellent decision making and priority setting in a clinical environment
- Enthusiasm for teaching and passing on their knowledge to junior members of staff
Mōu ake | About you
Appointed specialists will possess FANZCA or an equivalent qualification allowing a vocational registration with the NZ Medical Council. The Te Whatu Ora - Southern recruitment team are able to provide support in applying or renewing previous vocational registration. Applications from overseas physicians who had previous vocational registration are welcomed although you will need to be available for the full period of cover.

Utu whānui | Salary range
This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between the Step 1 ($185,380) and Step 15 ($267,980 p.a prorata)
