Join us as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic Apprentice in our Christchurch based workshop!  

We have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join the Christchurch team within our existing workshop. We have a comprehensive heavy vehicle workshop at our Hornby yard which provides mechanical services for our plant and equipment. We also have onsite WOF testing, onsite Auto electrical, and an onsite paint shop that create the “One-stop-shop” for all vehicle repairs.

This is an entry-level role with the purpose of training a new generation of tradespeople with on-the-job training.  

As an Apprentice Heavy Diesel Mechanic, you will:  

  • Service and repair vehicles and plant with guided assistance.
  • Complete inspections of vehicles and trailers.
  • Report all failure/breakdowns/causes to necessary supervisors.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy workplace.

We’re looking for someone with:  

  • National Certificate in Automotive Engineering (Level 3) or a relevant Pre-trade certification.
  • Full Class 1 Drivers Licence (Class 2 and WTR endorsements would be advantageous)
  • Basic knowledge of machines, materials and tools used for repairs and maintenance
  • Understanding of equipment selection, the ability to effectively determine the tools and equipment needed to do the job.
  • Basic industry knowledge.
  • Mechanical aptitude with a passion for solving mechanical problems.
  • A proactive approach to Health and Safety – it’s our #1 priority!
  • A positive attitude, friendly manner and of course a willingness to learn and upskill
