We are seeking a seasoned Lead Analyst Reporting to join the Monitoring and Analysis team.

Our Strategy and Insights group provides data and insights for effective decision making, enhanced investment capability, understanding and evaluating performance, and rigorous management of the Ministry’s accountability mechanisms.
Tēnei tūranga - About the role
This role provides technical leadership on the direction of the Monitoring and Analysis team and the delivery of their solutions and products. You will contribute to the on-going development of the team and provide support to the other technical teams to ensure organisational alignment and identify opportunities for collaboration.
The position requires a strategic and wide understanding of the key issues facing the Ministry, the public sector and government, as well as excellent relationship management and communication skills.
He kōrero mōu - About you
To be successful in this role, you will be expected to lead and contribute to key projects or programmes in which the team is involved. Your leading technical and analytical skills are critical to the role. You will have extensive experience developing and automating reporting processes, data analysis and working in a complex reporting or monitoring function with public-facing data. You will be comfortable developing new technical capabilities and support the team in a changing technical environment.
In addition, you will be able to identify key insights and trends and be able to adjust language and the content of reports when communicating the data to both technical and non-technical audiences. You will have a detailed understanding of the teams purpose and be able to identify opportunities for the team to contribute to MSD objectives.
You will manage work and priorities within an agile delivery framework and be comfortable working in a fast-paced and operational environment, balancing the immediate demands whilst ensuring progress is made on the longer-term roadmap.
Skills and Experiences:
- Relevant tertiary qualification
- Significant experience overseeing the technical delivery for a public-facing reporting and/or monitoring function, preferably within the public sector
- Highly advanced technical knowledge and experience in SAS, R or SQL, with a focus on automation and optimising reporting processes
- Experience with changing technical environments, developing new technical skills and capabilities across a range of different tools
- Preferably experience with design software e.g. Adobe Creative Suite and other data visualisation tools
- Proven experience of managing complex relationships, both internally and externally, with the ability to establish credibility at all levels
- Experience mentoring and developing colleagues with technical skills, preferably SAS, R and SQL
- Proven experience managing projects, particularly in the management of multi-faceted, complex and multi-stakeholder projects
- A good understanding of government processes including Official Information Act requests, Parliamentary Questions, etc
