Company Description

Meridian is the largest producer of renewable electricity in Aotearoa and we strive to deliver clean energy for a fairer and healthier world. We only generate electricity from 100% renewable resources – wind, water and sun, because we believe that’s the best way forward for our planet and our communities. And, we’re doing what we can to help Aotearoa reduce their carbon emissions and supporting others in our communities to do the same.

Powershop started out by offering something different. We put the power into the hands of our customers by building an online Shop for power that’s simple, rewarding and fun. We're on a mission to offer the best-in-class digital experience for our customers and continue to give our customers the tools and information that they need to be in control.

This is a unique role where you’ll get the best of both worlds and get to work across two leading brands: Meridian and Powershop. And while we do things a little differently, our values and fundamental principles are very similar. You’ll learn the ins and outs of both brands, double the fun!!

Together, Meridian and Powershop retail electricity to more than 380,000 homes, businesses and farms across New Zealand. Now that’s a pretty impressive combo!

Mō te tūranga | What you’ll be doing

It’s an exciting time to join our Retail team which has undergone a significant change in how they work to adopt new modern ways of working. Committed to making energy cleaner and cheaper for Aotearoa New Zealand, our Retail structure is made up of a network of empowered teams, united by a shared purpose and clear goals, equipped with the skills and capabilities to deliver value to customers end to end.

Reporting to the Hub Lead (Business Onboarding), the Energy Specialist (Sales) is responsible for elevating the way we connect with customers, transforming each sales interaction into a personalised, expert-driven experience. This involves guiding customers from initial interest to long-term partnerships by turning outbound calls into meaningful engagements and offering tailored energy solutions that exceed expectations. In this role you will actively contribute to the growth of the Business stream of our Retail team in a vibrant, customer-centric hub, ensuring a smooth transition from initial interest to seamless onboarding for customers.

You’ll identify and engage with potential customers through cold calling, and drive revenue growth by meeting or exceeding sales targets. You will promote upselling opportunities, offering energy solutions that provide greater value to customers, and share insights and learnings with colleagues for collective success and continuous improvement. Owning the entire sales process from the first contact through to account setup, you’ll ensure every touchpoint is seamless, personalised, and results in customer satisfaction and long-term retention.

Ngā pukenga kei a koe mō tenei tūranga | What you’ll bring

You'll be adaptable and be able to learn quickly, apply new information effectively, and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment. With a growth-oriented mindset, you continuously improve both personal and team performance, embracing new challenges and development opportunities.
