Senior UX Designer

This role is a 12 month fixed term engagement that will form part of Gentrack’s UX team which supports the R&D Product Development team. You will work closely with Product Managers (equivalent to being your customers), your UX colleagues, software engineers, subject matter experts.
A key initial focus area for this role will be designing Salesforce wireframes to support Gentrack’s new g2 product offering which has Salesforce as the front office. You’ll also support priorities of the broader UX team which includes being jointly responsible for developing and maintaining our design system, and Figma prototypes for development specifications, usability testing and demos. This role involves ongoing research to discover customer, end user and business goals, along with their relative success metrics. By researching, ideating solutions and workshopping with stakeholders you will develop and iterate concepts, processes, and detailed design solution specifications. You will work with the extended team to get the best possible product to the market.
This role is a global role, and supports product development and sales activity across NZ, AU & UK. To work effectively across this global remit, this role suits someone who is looking for flexible hours with the ability to work late nights or early mornings to support stakeholders in the UK time zone.
The Specifics
- Create Figma wireframes for Salesforce following the Salesforce design system
- Lead research-based projects
- Identify and communicate user and business goals, including success metrics. Plus, problems/barriers to achieving goals.
- Map user journeys.
- Be involved in the full product design life cycle (from concept to detailed specification to implementation).
- Help evangelise UX and UI processes at a project level.
- Work closely with your UX and UI colleagues, as well as Product Managers, Product Owners, Software Engineers and subject matter experts.
- Work closely with the extended team to get the best possible product to the market.
- Ongoing research, ideation, workshop participation, concept development, iterative processes and the production of detailed design solutions.
- Work hand in hand with Product Managers and the product team to understand and align on desired design outcomes. Use design thinking techniques to produce solutions that optimise user experience.
- Identifying relevant customer, cultural and commercial insights and translating these insights into design solutions.
- Expected to take a product idea from concept to production while quickly broadening their technical understanding as new technologies become available.
- Create prototypes, mock-ups, demos and final specifications in collaboration with a cross-functional team – to show to customers, and validate with users and subject matter experts.
- Create and evolve our design system of patterns, components, and styles across mobile and web.
What we're looking for (you don’t need to be a guru at all, we’re looking forward to coaching and collaborating with you):
- At least 3 years’ experience as a UX Designer with ability to develop complex software solutions
- A degree or equivalent experience in a design-related field (HCI, interaction, visual), or comparable work experience.
- Solid understanding of Agile UX, UI design and software development methodology as you will work in close collaboration with Engineers
- Someone who is outcome focused with a solid visual design aesthetic, can demonstrate it (a portfolio of design successes) and understand the relationship between business objectives and user needs.
- Ability to develop and iterate concepts.
- Ability to lead and manage a range of activities from workshops to prototyping
- Experience with planning, conducting and reporting usability tests.
- Proficiency with interaction design, creating user stories, flows and journeys, wireframes, prototypes and solution hypotheses.
- Proficiency with prototyping in Figma and working with design systems.
- An up-to-date knowledge of UI patterns and their usage – including experience with, and ongoing research into current UI pattern conventions.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience using Miro to work collaboratively is an advantage.
- Experience within the utilities industry would be a plus.
