How you will create an impact

An Underwriter in the Commercial Financial Lines and Casualty team actively contributes towards a portfolio of insurance through new business and renewal opportunities. The portfolio encompasses Casualty Liability (including General Liability) Directors and Officers Management Liability, Professional Indemnity and Cyber. In this role you’ll be reporting to the Casualty Manager, Specialty, New Zealand. You can develop your technical knowledge of our products, hone your relationship management and portfolio analysis skills all while challenging your problem-solving logic. It is a great space for a motivated, proactive and socially minded market-facing individual to grow.

What you need to know:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Developing and executing strategies for the Commercial Casualty and Financial Lines team’ products to ensure targets are met through sustainable underwriting.
  • Underwriting Commercial Casualty and Financial lines business including new and renewal business within authorities granted and in accordance with profit centre guidelines
  • Establish/Maintain strong customer/industry relationships across New Zealand including Broker relationships at all levels with indigenous and international broking firms.
  • Service clients and brokers across New Zealand.
  • Adapting to regulatory changes including product innovation and increase AIG’s profile through market leadership.

Key Functions

  • Jointly responsible for executing the Commercial Casualty and Financial Lines business plans and budgets and carry out the appropriate functions within the business.
  • Continual review and development of Products and development of new Products including associated Marketing material.
  • Attain appropriate levels of expertise in all product lines including changes and developments.
  • Monitor and execute delegated projects
  • Full participation in local and regional training (underwriting and personal skills).
  • Undertake presentation to clients and/or brokers where required, including product specific training, and pitching for business.
  • Undertake department’s self-audit procedures as required.
  • Responsibility for monitoring of premium processing
  • Work with the Casualty PCM, Financial Lines PCM and Regional Line Managers to ensure that strategies are developed and executed.
  • Develop and improve systems and processes
  • Assist the Casualty PCM and Financial Lines PCM with ongoing business analyst and financial reporting tasks such as assisting with quarterly and/or annual budgets, forecasting and submission tracking.
