The Role
We’re looking for a telecommunications technician to join our team. You’ll work under supervision to help maintain and install critical radio communication systems, train control equipment, and cable networks that keep New Zealand’s rail network operating efficiently. This hands-on role offers the opportunity to grow your skills and gain real-world experience in telecommunications.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the day-to-day operations of communication systems and equipment.
- Learn to interpret radio network plans and troubleshoot systems like locomotive radios.
- Perform manual tasks and operate power tools under supervision.
- Attend and contribute to team meetings and toolbox talks.
- Provide excellent customer service when interacting with colleagues, contractors, and the public.
- Document your work activities accurately.
Training and Development
You will receive On-The-Job Training to develop your technical skills, with the opportunity to attend both internal and external training courses as needed.
What You'll Bring
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Willingness to travel and stay overnight when required.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- A clean, current driver’s license.
- Commitment to safety and health standards.
- Experience in telecommunications or rail is a plus.
- Knowledge of rail infrastructure codes and standards.
- Electrical or telecommunications qualifications
