Job Description

The role of Teaching Assistant is an excellent opportunity to support in developing the minds of young people, to find their future. An essential aspect of this role is, alongside helping our students to gain qualifications, helping them to see a life beyond the qualification. This role will work in partnership with the Teacher, motivating and inspiring learners who have had not had good experiences of education up to now, in building up their confidence and self-belief.

*This role requires access to a car, and a full driving licence.

Main Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Taking charge of small groups of pupils for defined activities.
  • Working with individual or groups of children, assisting in ensuring that pupils are kept on task, and that activities which are set by the teacher are completed.
  • Dealing with behavioural and special needs issues, in conjunction with the teacher.
  • Delivering SEN interventions.
  • Helping to implement lesson plans, aims and contents with the teacher, providing feedback to pupils, and supporting and working with the teacher in testing/assessment.

Qualifications

We are looking for applicants with the following qualifications, knowledge, abilities, and experience:

  • A Level 2 Qualification in English and Maths (minimum).
  • Knowledge of the statutory requirements of health and safety, SEN, and child safeguarding.
  • Ability to work independently with groups or individual students (supported by the teacher).
  • Ability to work with challenging students, understanding their needs and demonstrating effective behaviour management strategies.
  • Experience of working at an advanced level, with the teacher, in planning and delivering teaching activities (including activities defined in Individual Education Plans).
  • Experience of teaching children with Education Health Care Plans, and Special Educational Needs, including language difficulties or other complex needs.
  • Determination to raise the levels of achievement of children, and ability to cope with emotionally demanding situations.

Additional Information

Salary: £19,672.82 - £21,349.29 pro-rata (based on £23,000 - £24,960 FTE per annum)
Hours of work: Full time, 37 hours per week (Term Time Only, 39 Weeks)
Contract: Permanent
