This is a challenging and varied Executive Assistant (EA) role. The Regional Commissioner in Wellington is responsible for all MSD’s activities in the region and manages both internal and external communications and services. This is a busy and challenging opportunity for an experienced EA who appreciates that our clients are central to MSD as an organisation, our people are our most taonga and Te Pae Tawhiti – our future is the Ministry’s direction.
MSD purpose: We help New Zealanders to be safe, strong, and independent Manaaki tangata, manaaki whānau.
We are looking for a candidate who is highly proactive, self-managing, comfortable juggling multiple deadlines and who has an unflappable approach in busy situations. This role requires someone who can engage with a range of people and demonstrate smart, vibrant, and engaging communication skills. You will also need to have the ability to keep things moving sometimes without direct input from the Regional Commissioner who is often out of the office and who has multiple demands on their time.
You will interact with the wider regional office and leadership team to help our business run smoothly. Office management of the day-to-day business of Regional Office, this could mean anything from orientating new staff to car fleet management, organizing a morning tea cleaning up after then taking minutes and co-ordinating actions and responses. The work is varied with multiple competing demands and can require urgent issues management, anticipating required material and reports, event coordination and diary, email, and travel management. Integrity, high professional standards, and an appreciation of the need for confidentiality are essential given the sensitive material the Regional Commissioner manages.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Unflappable under pressure and who enjoys the challenge of deadlines.
- Intuitive, loves using their initiative and who shows good judgement.
- Flexible and a fast learner who takes a proactive approach.
- Highly organised and a great relationship manager
- Able to ‘manage up’ and who has relevant work experience.
- Understands or has a willingness to learn the machinery of government and political environments.
- Is knowledgeable and understands the importance of stakeholder relationships.
Internal vetting and the completion of a police check are requirements of working for MSD and you’ll also need great references.

Salary range: $78,222.00 - $94,689.00
