Job Description
Our Macraes Open Pit team are on the hunt for an experienced mining Supervisor. This position is primarily responsible for coordinating and implementing the open pit mining shift activities to ensure that production and compliance targets are met in a safe and efficient manner. This position works on a 7 days on / 7 off / 7 nights / 7 off roster, with free bus transport to and from site.
This is a drive in, drive out opportunity with Macraes situated 1 hour drive from Dunedin or Oamaru, each with stunning landscapes and beaches to explore. For the more adventurous, Queenstown is just a 2.5 hour drive, offering endless amounts of exciting activities (skiing, kayaking, hiking, water sports, fishing and more) to explore on your days off.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Co-ordinate mine crew activities to ensure they are aligned to achieve the mining plan
- Provide input and review the short term mining plan so that priorities and contingencies are understood
- Provide leadership and coaching to establish a strong culture of continuous improvement.
- Ensure that all work carried out within the open pit mine is completed safely and in accordance with safe work procedures and policies at all times.
- Assist the Production Co-ordinator in developing plans to achieve mill feed grade and tonnes targets.
- Assign tasks according to individuals’ abilities and agree what is to be accomplished. Give clear instructions, actively listen, provide constructive feedback, and hold regular meetings.
- Share wisdom, knowledge and experience with team to encourage increased performance
- Build and maintain effective relationships in order to retain a high performance workforce through engagement, communication and motivation
Qualifications
- New Zealand A or B Grade Quarry Managers’ Certificate of Competency (or the ability to obtain)
- Full and Current Driver Licence, ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred.
Preferred experience:
- Minimum 5 to 7 years open pit mining experience and good understanding of all aspects of open cut mining.
- Have a proven record of mining crew supervision and heavy equipment operations.
