We are looking for motivated individuals to join our team as Trainee Track Workers. This is an entry-level position perfect for those looking to start a career in the rail industry. You will be trained on the job, gaining valuable skills and qualifications.

 

  • Join a friendly and supportive team  
  • Based in Christchurch
  • Starting hourly rate $28.93 + penalty rates where applicable
  • Monday – Friday 40 Hours per week

 

What you’ll do: 

As a new member of the KiwiRail maintenance team, you would be required to work efficiently in a team environment to conduct maintenance, repairs or renewals of the infrastructure using the appropriate methodology to complete the tasks.

 

Further to the above your key duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Assist in the maintenance of railway tracks and related infrastructure
  • Perform manual labour, including lifting and moving heavy materials
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment
  • Follow safety procedures and regulations at all times 
  • Work in various weather conditions and environments

 

What you’ll need: 

  • Physically fit and able to perform strenuous tasks
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Strong work ethic and reliability
  • Flexible to stay away on the occasion (as per business needs)
  • You must also be able to pass a Ministry of Justice check and complete a mandatory medical and drug test to be considered for this role
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Valid Class 1 New Zealand driver’s license (Class 2 Licence would be an advantage)
