Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer with Project Management Focus

Our Geotechnical team in Nelson, BC, is seeking an experienced Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer that has a project management aptitude and interest.
Your role within the team:
- This role will include the execution of routine and complex programs, supporting complex proposals, mentoring of junior staff, as well as acting as a strong technical reference.
- Candidates should have the right flare and ability that will help us develop and expand our geotechnics capability by building on the existing portfolio of our growing, flexible and outward looking team that can tackle work across a broad spectrum of sectors such as electrical and pipeline grids, infrastructure, geohazards and flood protection.
- Undertake geotechnical assessments, complex analysis, design calculations and detailed designs with efficient use of specialized software such as GeoStudio.
- Contribute to the development of project proposals/cost estimates and participate in the process of securing new business opportunities or expanding the scope of existing projects.
- Develop client relationships and internal company networks.
- Be the project manager and lead for proposals through planning, execution, financial management and close-out.
- Support senior leadership with field evaluations, manage and contribute to geotechnical investigations and undertake design assessments and complex analysis calculations.
- Understand construction drawings and design reports to support construction and provide guidance and troubleshooting for QA field testing and performance of materials such as soil, bedrock and concrete.
- Analyze and prepare recommendations and reports for projects relating to foundation design, infrastructure, shoring, retaining walls, slope stability, ground improvement, settlement and deformation analysis, screening level seismic and liquefaction assessments, road structure design, dikes and dams, materials testing, and other geotechnical related projects.
- Adhere to rules and procedures that ensure health, safety and environment as well as prevention of workplace incidents.
- Furthermore, in a context of continuous improvement, be proactive in improving health, safety & environment rules and procedures to prevent potential hazards related to your work.

The ideal candidate:
- Degree in Geotechnical Engineering.
- Preferably 6 to 12 years of experience in Geotechnical Engineering with Project Management experience.
- Experience in one or more of the following sectors: highways, rail, electrical infrastructure, municipal, industrial, mining, commercial or residential geotechnics.
- Either has or is eligible for a Professional Engineering License (P.Eng.). in British Columbia or be already registered in another Canadian province.
- Proven experience of acting in an independent intermediate geotechnical role in a fast-moving engineering consultancy environment.
- Project management - experience and understanding of the needs and approaches to the engineering consultancy and design markets, including relationships with clients, and work planning.
- We consider that a CAPM or PMP Designation (or keen interest to acquire this) will be an asset.
- Proven geotechnical design experience including application of Design Standards and Guidelines in a design and ground investigation environment.
- Proven geotechnical investigation experience.
- Previous geohazards investigation and flood mitigation would be beneficial.
- Experienced in general geotechnical numerical software.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, technical skills and the ability to support the development of teams.
- Excellent report writing and proposal writing skills with the ability to peer-review and produce quality deliverables.
- A willingness to travel on short assignments province wide.
- A valid driver's license.
Compensation Range:
- Expected compensation for this role is between $80,000 to $120,000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, location, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also considered in our offers.
