Zoo Groundskeeper (1 year fixed term contract)
Auckland Zoo is recognised as one of the most progressive zoos in the world. A winner of national and international environmental-related awards, it is home to 135 different species and over 1400 animals.
With such an array of different species, this is a great opportunity to join Auckland Zoo and be part of an organisation that aims to focus the Zoo's resources to benefit conservation and provide exciting visitor experiences which inspire and empower people to take positive action for wildlife and the environment.
We are currently looking for our next Groundskeeper to join the operations team on a 1-year fixed term contract starting in November 2024, with the possibility to extend.
Within this role you will be responsible for preparing and maintaining the zoo grounds and developing a new area.
This includes maintaining the exterior surfaces of buildings, fixtures, signs and public areas and utilising equipment such as mowers, leaf blowers and hedge trimmers. A central part of the work also involves managing the collection of inorganic and organic waste. This role is an essential part of the overall success of the zoo providing the best environment for our visitors, staff and animals.
You will work 80 hours per fortnight, across 7 days on a variable roster including weekends and public holidays.

He kōrero mōu: About you
As a ground's person, you will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and positively contribute to a team environment. You will spend the majority of the day on your feet with medium to heavy lifting from time to time, so strong stamina and a good level of fitness is essential.
You will also possess:
• Previous experience maintaining grounds is desirable
• Experience using mowers, edge trimmers, and leaf blowers
• An understanding of health and safety requirements
• Enthusiasm with a 'can-do' attitude
• NZ Divers License (manual vehicle) required
• HT desirable, but not essential
You will have good time management skills as well as the ability to meet your deadlines. Keeping an open mind and remaining flexible is essential as is a positive approach to being part of the team.

The salary per annum is $57,824.00 for unqualified applicants and up to $62,807.68 for those with experience.
