We have a fabulous, fixed-term opportunity available for a full-time Democracy Advisor for the Rodney Local Board until August 2025. This role will report to the Local Area Manager and will be based predominately in Warkworth at the Rodney Local Board office. 


The role requires analysis and understanding of the wide-ranging content of the local board’s work programme, covering the spectrum of Auckland Council activities.


The Governance and Engagement department provides dedicated support to local boards. As a Democracy Advisor, you will be the governance expert with a primary focus on supporting and advising the Rodney Local Board and its members in their democratic and governance responsibilities and processes.


Day-to-day you could work on:
•    Preparing public meetings and workshops, including notifications, scheduling public forums and workshop attendees 
•    Producing high quality agendas, minutes and workshop records
•    Briefing attending council officers prior to local board meetings and workshops on what is expected
•    Responding and co-ordinating information requests under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act1987.

This role will see you working alongside local board members, senior management and representatives from Tamaki Makaurau’s diverse communities therefore confidence and the ability to remain diplomatic is vital. 


You will have political acumen and display good judgment when processing complex information.


We are looking for:
•    Someone with self-motivation and high degree of initiative with the ability to balance   competing demands      
•    Good understanding of local government legislation, council practices and constraints    
•    Experience in the political field in a local government meeting or democratic processes environment, e.g. provision of agendas and minutes, knowledge of standing orders
•    Experience with Infocouncil systems would be a bonus
