We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Solar Specialist to join our Power Generation team, within our Energy & Industrial practice

As part of the leading renewables advisory firm in Aotearoa, this newly created opportunity will provide you with lots of room to demonstrate your skillset as part of our high performing national Energy & Industrial team. We are flexible about the location of this role; it will be based in Aotearoa. 

 

Our new Senior Solar Specialist will support in the delivery of solar projects based in New Zealand and Australia. The role will include technical leadership of Aurecon’s pipeline of solar projects, providing support to our clients in our roles as Owner’s Engineer, Lenders Technical Advisor as well as undertaking technical due diligence. They will lead the development of concept designs and feasibility studies, undertake technical analyses and design reviews as well as develop technical specifications and support in key contract procurement. They will also have the opportunity to undertake site inspections on active construction projects as well as operational sites to report on progress and quality. With a commitment to innovation and sustainability, they will remain up to date with the latest advancements in solar technology, driving the transition to cleaner energy solutions. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Feasibility Studies: Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies to determine the suitability of locations for solar installations, evaluating factors such as sunlight exposure, shading, and structural integrity. 

  • Technical Analysis: Review technical design documentation and procurement specifications and provide comments and advice to our clients including equipment selection and performance considerations. 

  • Contract Procurement: Support in the procurement of key contractors. Including the development of technical specifications and other tender documentation for key contract packages, evaluation of tender returns and support in contract negotiation. 

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure designs comply with local regulations, building codes, and safety standards. Liaise with regulatory bodies and prepare necessary documentation for permits. 

  • Project Management: Oversee the installation and commissioning of solar power systems, coordinating with clients, contractors, and suppliers. 

  • Cost Estimation: Prepare cost estimates including equipment prices, construction costs and operating costs. 

  • Client Consultation: Advise clients on the best renewable energy solutions to meet their energy needs and sustainability goals, providing training and education on the operation and maintenance of solar systems. 

  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for operational solar systems, including performance monitoring and advice on maintenance and asset management. 

  • Innovation and Research: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in solar technology and integrate new innovations and best practices into project designs.

What are we looking for from you?  

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in solar energy systems and a passion for renewable energy technologies. You will bring at least 5 years of relevant industry experience, ideally from an engineering consultancy environment 

 

Alongside this, you will have the following: 

  • Bachelor's degree in either Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field. 

  • Proven experience in working on utility scale solar power projects with specific experience in key equipment, site design, project development, construction and operation 

  • Great written skills and enthusiasm for report writing. 

  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and building codes. 

  • Excellent project management and communication skills. 

  • Passion for renewable energy and sustainability.
