We are looking for a skilled and experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and optimising both AWS cloud and on-premises infrastructure. Your expertise will be crucial in troubleshooting performance issues, ensuring security, and providing technical support across various environments. You will also play a key role in compliance initiatives, supporting our adherence to industry standards such as GDPR and PCI DSS. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in AWS, VMware, M365, Active Directory, Linux and Windows operating systems, networking, and security technologies.
Job Description
The value-add things you’ll be doing
Infrastructure & Cloud Management:
- Manage and optimise AWS resources, including EC2, EKS, RDS, IAM, and security policies to meet business requirements.
- Oversee on-premises VMware environments, including Windows and Linux server management and storage solutions (Synology, Veeam B&R).
- Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability strategies to minimise downtime and data loss.
- Perform routine patching and vulnerability management and ensure system updates are applied promptly.
- Conduct daily operational checks to ensure smooth and secure infrastructure operations.
Support & Troubleshooting:
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex performance issues across AWS and on-prem environments to maintain optimal system performance.
- Provide hands-on support for M365, Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, and Group Policy management.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network issues, leveraging experience with Cisco and WatchGuard firewalls.
- Monitor infrastructure health using industry-standard monitoring tools, such as PRTG and Dynatrace, to identify and proactively address potential issues.
- Provide comprehensive end-user support for laptops, including onboarding and onboarding processes, printers, and wireless access points.
Security & Compliance:
- Ensure robust security controls and permissions across AWS and on-premise environments, adhering to best practices for secure access management.
- Assist with patching and maintenance of Windows and Linux servers to ensure they are secure and up to date.
- Collaborate with security teams to support ongoing compliance efforts for GDPR and PCI DSS.
- Participate in security audits and vulnerability assessments, contributing to the proactive identification and resolution of security risks.
Performance Metrics / Deliverables:
- Achieve prompt ticket resolution within agreed SLAs.
- Maintain optimised performance, security, and compliance across AWS and on-prem systems.
- Successfully manage user onboarding and offboarding in alignment with company policies and SLA requirements.
- Ensure system uptime meets or exceeds defined business standards
Qualifications
Key skills and attributes that will set you up for success
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar infrastructure, AWS, or cloud engineering role.
- Extensive experience with AWS services, including EC2, EKS, RDS, IAM, and security configurations.
- Strong hands-on experience with VMware environments and proficiency in managing both Windows and Linux server operating systems.
- Experience with backup and monitoring solutions such as Veeam B&R, PRTG, and Dynatrace.
- Solid understanding of networking technologies and security best practices, particularly with Cisco and WatchGuard.
- Experience working in environments subject to GDPR and PCI DSS compliance standards.
- Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and communicate technical issues.
