Mō te tūranga | About the Role

Reporting to the Chief of Operational and Enterprise Risk, you will support our Chief Risk Officer and Risk Leadership Team (RLT) in elevating risk management disciplines across WNZL. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the delivery of first-class governance services to our Executive Teams, Board, and committees.

As the Senior Manager Risk Governance, you will be accountable for managing and executing the governance function at Westpac New Zealand.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of Executive Risk Committees and reporting requirements for the WNZL Board and Committees. You'll manage the publication of high-quality papers for key governance bodies, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements and maintain clarity.

  • Oversee the paper review process, working closely with senior stakeholders and authors to ensure concise, clear, and impactful content. You’ll consult with authors, including senior leadership, to ensure papers are well-aligned with regulatory expectations.

  • Provide secretariat services to Executive Risk Committees such as RISKCO, CREDCO, BTNZ, and others, ensuring efficient communication and timely delivery of papers. You’ll supervise agendas and work with stakeholders to ensure their alignment with governance requirements.

  • Collaborate with the Regulatory Affairs team to ensure all regulatory deliverables and initiatives are tracked in the risk performance programme. You’ll also work with Group Regulatory Affairs to ensure proper planning and sign-offs.

  • Deliver quarterly reviews of Risk Committee performance, tracking the quality of governance materials and ensuring continuous improvement.

  • Lead by example, mentoring and coaching teams to build capability and improve performance. Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture in line with Westpac’s values.

Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?

  • You will hold a relevant Tertiary Qualification and bring a strong understanding of the operational risk management framework, with over 10 years of experience in the financial services industry, ideally within the banking sector.

  • You’ll also be familiar with key regulatory bodies like APRA, RBNZ, and FMA.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with experience in executive-level writing and stakeholder management. You’ll know how to distil complex concepts into clear, actionable content for senior leaders.

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and O365 tools, with a reputation for being a "guru" in this space.

  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams, while also mentoring individuals to enhance their performance and deliver exceptional results.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with efficiency and resilience, especially under pressure. You’ll be highly organized with an eye for detail.

  • A solid understanding of regulatory requirements, governance frameworks, and best practices.
