Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity   

We have an exciting opportunity to join our NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi Safety Camera System team as a Team Leader in Hamilton.

As a leader for our Enforcement Officers, you’ll play an important role for the team who provide comprehensive advice and education to customers to uphold their compliance with the land transport system.

You will be a motivated leader with a passion for leading and coaching a high performing team to deliver great outcomes. We are looking for someone who will keep customers at the heart of everything we do and support the implementation of new business process in an operation environment.

The team operates Monday to Friday with shifts between 7.55am – 6pm.

We are seeking to appoint at a salary between $78,030 -$90,000 commensurate to skills and experience

Training  

You’ll need to be available full time between 8am – 4.30pm, for 4 weeks training starting on Thursday 5th June 2025.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Strong leadership skills with proven track record of achieving results through people and ensuring key performance objectives are met
  • Proven experience in building people capability, including coaching, mentoring and managing performance development plans
  • Proven experience in sound decision making and complaints management
  • Ability to work under pressure with high level of resilience and autonomy
  • Effective and timely problem-solving ability
  • Displays a high level of customer focus, understands customer service excellence within a Regulatory environment
  • You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public service. 


You will also be required to obtain and maintain Enforcement Officer Certification.

The purpose of the Customer and Services group is to:

  • Deliver great transactional products and services through operational excellence and a customer focus.
     
  • Support the effective operation of the land transport system by making transactional and backend services simple, easy to use and effective for the user.

  • Continue to improve the experience of people who interact with NZTA Waka Kotahi and our services and products by driving efforts to assess and elevate areas where the customer experience can be optimised to make customer interactions consistent, simple, and positive experiences. Group and team purpose

  • Develop a service and back-end delivery capability to support effective and efficient operation of new and emerging functions for NZTA Waka Kotahi including licensing, Emissions Reduction Plan incentive schemes, National Ticketing, and Safety Camera Systems and ticketing.

  • Create our customer and services strategy with others to deliver an integrated customer and user experience informed by understanding our customer requirements to advise the business on how we can strengthen our focus in this area.

This role is also part of the Safety Camera System, which is responsible for operating a network of safety cameras that encourages road users to abide by road rules (such as speed limits) and contribute towards a reduction in deaths and serious injuries on New Zealand roads in line with Road to Zero, Aotearoa New Zealand’s Road Safety strategy. The system covers activities across education, engagement and enforcement that are delivered through multiple Waka Kotahi business groups working together under the direction of the Senior Manager, Safety Camera System.
