The Opportunity

We are actively seeking two new Designers for Downer’s Energy & Utilities business unit reporting to the Design Team Leader and can be located in any of our main locations in New Zealand however, preferred location would be Wellington. The Outside Plant Designer will apply knowledge of telecommunications network systems and practices to scope and design competitive solutions to client needs. The ideal candidate will envision themselves attending to duties such as:

• Provide appropriate project management support to ensure desirable outcomes of work undertaken
• Review our client requests, validate the request, design a solution using the telecommunication standards, ensuring zero harm processes are included in the design solution and price accordingly
• All major project costs are compiled on the approved pricing model
• Ensure Designs are technically compliant to the relevant client’s requirements
• Manage costs of Design & Quoting for large projects to remain within budget
• Participate in QA and Financial Review of large projects

What we are looking for 

• Bachelor of Engineering, Engineering Technology, a qualification comparable to NZQA Level 4 or higher with on-the-job training are all desirable 
• The ability to apply technical knowledge to the tendering and design processes
• Experience within the telco industry especially around fibre optic networks is preferred
• A sound understanding of the financial requirements of the tendering, design and project management processes
• Well-developed organisational skills – including written and oral communication
• Strong interpersonal skills – to be applied to all internal and external relationships
