As a Junior Software Engineer, you will be expected to support the development of quality Gentrack products by actively contributing and collaborating with team members and other developers across teams. Operating within best coding practice is essential to this role, as is a team mind-set. Work-life balance is very important to us and that is why work hours are 7.5 hours a day and we encourage logging off early on Fridays.

We're building a capability to modernize our capable and proven core product after renewed focus at all levels in the company - Board, CEO , CTO and VP of Product and Engineering. The team is solving hard problems ,the solutions will impact each and every Customer and the development teams in Gentrack. Your work will also lead to uplifting the developer experience of every developer in Gentrack so that we deliver value quickly. We are seeking a Junior Software Engineer to join this team . You will be part of a team which also has an established buddy program that helps empower new joiners to grow and sharpen their skills.
Gentrack is a 800 person, growing business, listed in the public markets of New Zealand and Australia. The main people centres are in London, Auckland, Melbourne and Pune.
In this role you can expect to:
- Be part of and actively contribute to a self-organising, cross-functional team
- Learn and develop an understanding of engineering principles, next-generation Cloud-native Platforms like AWS
- Liaise with our internal Customers to understand & analyse their requirements and develop appropriate solutions
- Work with a variety of stakeholders including Development teams, Principals, Tech Leads, Senior Managers
- Take time for personal training and development
What you need to be successful:
- 1+ years of commercial software development experience in a team especially a self-managing team
- Proven experience in software development using C++ OR C#.
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git
- Not a must but experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, and RDS will be a bonus
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
- Exposure to software testing e.g. unit tests, integration tests, acceptance tests
- A good understanding of all aspects of the software development life cycle
- Quick learner , strong analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Be open to accepting constructive feedback and developing software engineering practice
