As a Department/Contracting Manager you are responsible for a single function within a division e.g. maintenance, drainage, paving etc. Department Managers will coordinate and overview the effective programming, utilisation and delivery of all on site-foreman, employees, plant resources and subcontractor teams. You could be involved in large projects in scope/size or multiple smaller projects. Our values will drive everything you do.
In this role we are looking for a Maintenance/Contracting Manager to join the team in Palmerston North. In this dual role you will effectively be managing your maintenance department and will ensure that it is delivering quality work for our clients, and our people are doing good work every day. You will also oversee the Contract Management for the division.
In addition to the above you will:
Oversee pricing of work and preparation of variations/ quotes/ estimates and when applicable tenders for other client related works
Be aware of and oversee contractual procedures for managing changes to scope of work for direct work and sub-contractor agreements
Ensure reports, claims and programmes are prepared and submitted correctly and in a timely manner
Ensure forward planning, organising and ordering of contract subbies/ survey/ materials/ plant/ people
Ensure your department staff are provided with leadership and guidance to maximise performance
Work well with your Supervisors and administration staff to ensure they support the delivery teams on the contract and meet all KPIs and OPMs

We’re looking for someone with:
5 years relevant experience within roading maintenance and construction
Safety related certification
Current class 1 driver’s licence
Experience in managing NZS 3910 and NZS3917 contracts
Knowledge of contractual processes
RAMM experience and knowledge is essential
Leadership and people management experience with a strong focus on mentoring and development
Understanding of job pricing including labour, plant and materials and associated margin / profit calculations
Operational management – planning, resource allocation and coordination
Financial management of budgets, cost-benefit analysis, reconciliation, reporting
Have a solid understanding of civil construction methods, systems and techniques
Time management skills and ability to prioritise to meet numerous and demanding deadlines
Advanced computer literacy, keyboard and file management skills
