He angitūtanga: The opportunity  

Auckland Council is seeking a skilled Swimming Pool Fence Assessor to inspect residential pool fencing, ensuring compliance with legislative and safety standards. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to Auckland’s safety by ensuring that pool fencing meets the Building Act and Building Code requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate and uphold the principles of Our Charter, ensuring professional conduct.
  • Endorse compliance with the Building Act and safety standards.
  • Conduct thorough site inspections, reviewing swimming pool fencing work.
  • Make compliance decisions and take enforcement action when required.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of inspections, meetings, and outcomes.
  • Provide advice to builders, owners, architects, and developers on fencing compliance.
  • Work outside core office hours as needed to meet customer requirements.
  • Work regionally across Auckland as needed.
  • Educate external parties on pool fencing compliance.
  • Participate in ongoing professional training and knowledge updates.

 

This is a fixed term role until April 2026 working 40 hours per week Monday to Friday.

You are a detail-oriented professional with a solid understanding of the Building Act and safety regulations. Your excellent communication and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to manage your time effectively, will ensure the safety and compliance of pool fencing in Auckland. You thrive in a collaborative team environment and are passionate about contributing to the safety of the community.

 

Key Skills

  • Strong knowledge of legislation, including the Building Act and Local Government Act.
  • Ability to work effectively in a geographically spread team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong networking and relationship-building abilities.
  • High initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.

Job Requirements

  • NZ Trade Certificate or equivalent qualification (or related discipline) is desirable.
  • Experience in a compliance or regulatory environment is preferred.
  • A current New Zealand Drivers Licence.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Operational knowledge of Auckland Council internal systems (Inspect, Naviplan, SAP) is a plus.

Salary range $63k to $74 per annum
