Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
Part of our highly respected Te Waka Kōtuia Engagement and Partnerships Group, this role involves managing all aspects of engagement with news media for NZ Transport Agency in the South Island, including maintaining strong relationships with regional media.
The purpose of this role is to provide senior-level strategic advice to ensure that NZTA’s media engagement activities help to achieve our strategic goals and contribute to building and maintaining a strong external reputation for the organisation. In addition to media engagement, the Media Manager will also contribute to the development and implementation of external and internal communications strategies.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Previous experience working with media as an advisor or as a journalist
- Experience in strategic communications planning
- Experience in a political environment and an understanding of the political process
- An understanding of how broadcast, print and on-line media operate
- The ability to produce high quality content
- A high standard of written and oral communication skills, including the ability to successfully present complex issues to a general audience
- A sound knowledge and understanding of issues, challenges and opportunities relating to transport and infrastructure is desirable.
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
