Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity 

Join Our Team as Operations and Maintenance Manager!

As the Operations and Maintenance Manager, you’ll oversee the planning, maintenance, and operations of our hydro sites. You’ll manage and grow diverse teams, formulate and execute strategies, and collaborate with other site managers to ensure our business remains sustainable and competitive. Reporting to the Head of Generation – Hydro, your role is pivotal in driving our mission forward.

In this dynamic role, you’ll manage all maintenance services at our Hydro sites, ensuring compliance with our asset management policies and environmental standards. You’ll lead mechanical, electrical, and system technical disciplines, oversee the SAP work planning and scheduling process, and ensure all site activities adhere to safety and regulatory requirements. Additionally, you’ll contribute to budget preparation, manage operating plans, and plan for outages, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.

To excel in this role, you’ll need exceptional foresight, excellent communication skills, and a solid understanding of various engineering disciplines. Your ability to resolve complex issues, develop long-term solutions, and make effective business decisions will be crucial. You’ll also need to build strong relationships with key stakeholders, demonstrating strengths in influencing, conflict management, and negotiation. If you’re skilled at meeting maintenance targets and optimising plant utilization, we want you on our team!

Qualifications

Ko wai koe | About You

This position will require a broad set of skills and experience.  Contact will seek and recruit talent that have the following key attributes and behavioral competences:

  • Trade or operating background with relevant tertiary/professional qualification or equivalent. Preferably in engineering or related sciences.
  • Experience leading and motivating a team, including contractors
  • Sound knowledge of some or all of the following:
    • Pressure equipment
    • Mechanical plant
    • Electrical plant
    • Electronic, control and protection systems
    • Other systems
  • Experience in power plant or hydro power plant operations
  • Experience in project management and contract management
  • Proven ability in the maintenance of some or several of the following:
    • Heavy electrical plant
    • Mechanical plant
    • Operations plant
  • Experience leading and motivating a team, including contractors
  • Excellent knowledge of the application of plant condition monitoring and maintenance strategy systems
  • Understanding of electricity generation, electricity trading and the national grid
