Your role

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of Aboriginal people and their communities? We are seeking a dedicated Aboriginal Mentor to join the Wellington Correctional Centre team. What you’ll do

As part of the Wellington Correctional Centre team, you will provide cultural, spiritual, emotional, and rehabilitative support to Aboriginal offenders, and assist in times of crisis. You will also contribute your knowledge and experience to the development and delivery of culturally relevant programs, encouraging offender participation in meaningful activities that foster growth and positive change.

Your role will help build and maintain strong relationships between Aboriginal offenders, the Aboriginal community, and Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW), empowering individuals to make a successful transition back to their communities. You will be part of a diverse and supportive team that values cultural connections and strives to create a rehabilitative and respectful environment.

What we’re looking for

  • A deep understanding of Aboriginal culture, history, and justice issues to provide meaningful guidance and rehabilitation support for Aboriginal offenders.
  • Aboriginality, with a strong and active connection to community and country, and a passion for cultural empowerment.
  • Strong communication and mediation skills to foster positive relationships between Aboriginal communities, offenders, and CSNSW.
  • Current and valid driver's license and a willingness to travel within NSW to support Aboriginal communities.
