Play Project Manager | 2 Year Fixed Term

We have a new and exciting position that has been created to advocate and deliver play programmes across Auckland Council and our communities.

 

Play is vitally important for our people. Tamariki/Children need time, space and permission to play. Play allows people of all ages to experience fun, joy and laughter in a way that is important to them. Taking part to explore, interact and engage with the world around us.

 

Auckland Council has partnerships across the Play, Active Recreation and Sports sectors that are critical to success in this space, and your role would be to nurture these community-based and well-recognised organisations relationships, using your skills to influence the consideration, empowerment, enablement, and equitable promotion of play.

 

As a Play Project Manager, you will be:

  • Delivering and advocating the play programme
  • Developing relationships with staff across council, CCOs, and our partnerships to accelerate the creation of conditions and opportunities for enduring play across Tāmaki Makaurau
  • Take a project management approach to ensuring that all play advocacy projects are delivered in a timely fashion and address identified community needs.

This is a 2-year fixed-term position until the end of 2026

He kōrero mōu: About you

We are looking for someone who is passionate about play and understands the value of providing play for the wellbeing of tamariki. You will bring passion for the well-being of our communities and whanau, a belief that we can achieve this through play and living the values of the play sector.

 

You are someone who excels in leveraging partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including Play Partners Auckland-wide, Council and CCOs staff, and local board partners. You have the ability to speak persuasively and communicate effectively in person with a range of stakeholders while being able to work autonomously.

 

You feel comfortable with ambiguity and keeping things on track with your project management skills to ensure the delivery, planning, resource allocation, budgeting, and legal compliance of the play programme.

 

In addition, to be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or similar qualification in a relevant field (planning, policy, health or similar) 
  • 5+ years’ post-graduation, broader-based experience in a local government, central government, or relevant sector
  • Experience working in a local government and high-profile organisations and associated political environment
  • Prior exposure to policy design would be ideal
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of tikanga and te reo
