Auckland Council’s Licensing and Regulatory Compliance department provides compliance services for the directorate, administering the rules and bylaws that promote public health and protect Aucklanders from nuisance and harm, to ensure Auckland is a safe and healthy city, a great place to live, work, and play, with an outstanding environment for now and future generations.
He angitūtanga: The opportunity
There is an exciting opportunity for an excellent Team Leader to be part of Australasia's largest Animal Management team, leading a team of dedicated Animal Management Officers and keeping communities safe through education and enforcement of the Dog Control Act, Animal Welfare Act, Impounding Act and council bylaws. The Animal Management environment can be challenging at times, so your excellent communication, de-escalation skills and resilient mindset will be essential to you being successful in this rewarding role.
You will have a clear understanding of the council's role and obligations in relation to compliance. In addition to fiscal management responsibilities, you will operate as part of a wider team to ensure regional consistency in service delivery and best practice.
This full-time permanent role works 40 hours per week Monday to Friday is based in Manukau.
He kōrero mōu: About you
We are looking for a person with proven experience managing or supervising a team. You will actively contribute to a positive 'one team' culture across Animal Management where excellent customer service, strong collaboration, and high performance are valued and celebrated. A key aspect of your role will be to provide coaching and mentoring for team leaders and staff whilst developing your team to enable them to drive a first-class culture and achieve outstanding results.
To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in policy, animal management, or other relevant disciplines, you will ideally have experience in the field of Animal Management or compliance/enforcement/investigation in a regulatory environment or local government with experience in policy development and implementation, working knowledge of the Dog Control Act 1996 and the Animal Welfare Act 1999 and you need to have a current full and clean New Zealand drivers licence.
The suitable candidate for this role will possess:
• A minimum of 5 years experience managing and leading a team
• Strong leadership and a highly competent management ability
• Excellent understanding and interpretation of compliance within the legislative framework
• Sound analytical and problems solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively both internally and externally
• Strong customer focus and the desire to continually improve the customer experience.
• Excellent communication skills both verbal & written
• Exceptional conflict management and resolution
• A full clean NZ driving license
