Job Description
OceanaGold's Macraes Mine is seeking Field Technicians to join the Open Pit exploration team. The ideal candidate will be a team player who collaborates with colleagues, in alignment with OceanaGold’s Purpose, Vision and Values. Macraes is the largest mining operation in New Zealand, and these positions have true opportunity to progress long-term. They would suit recent graduates, or anyone looking to gain experience in a large-scale mining operation.
This is an entry-level position, and would be well suited those looking to start their mining career. You will provide important support to our Open Pit mining team by collecting representative ore samples and demonstrating sound health and safety practices, while learning about a key aspect of the gold mining process. This role involves working outdoors in all weather and can be quite physical with regular lifting of 5 – 10kg samples. On-the-job support and mentoring go hand in hand with the experience you will bring to this field-based role.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
- Following set processes to collect samples from drill rigs
- Communicating any issues relating to the quality of the samples
- Assisting with housekeeping and maintenance of storage facilities
- Data entry and administration
- Ensuring all incidents and hazards are reported
Qualifications
• Have a genuine interest in the mining industry
• Enjoy working outdoors in all weathers
• Have a good level of fitness
• Be comfortable using MS office; excel
• Have completed a minimum of NCEA Level 2 or equivalent in Maths and English
• Be able to communicate within a team environment
• Hold a full, clean, current driver's licence and must be comfortable driving a manual vehicle over rough terrain
